Palm Breweries NV Chooses Drink-IT EMCS

The Belgian independent family brewery group PALM Breweries NV, has chosen the NORRIQ Belgium Drink-IT EMCS solution for the reporting and processing of their e-AD’s (electronic Administrative Document).

On 1 January 2011 the AAD (Administrative Accompanying Document) was replaced by the e-AD and the hard-copy process therefore moved over to leave room for electronic communication and verification. EMCS (Excise Movement & Control System) therefore became a legal obligation, imposed by the European Union, for the purpose of having a better control on the transport of excise duty goods between the member states.

Drink-IT has developed a B²G (Business to Government) solution, which makes it possible to exchange electronic information between companies and the administration of the member state, for the transport of excise goods under suspension of excise duties. This EMCS module makes it possible to submit an e-AD electronically and to settle it via XML messages.

Nine Belgian drinks manufacturers have now successfully started working with Drink-IT EMCS including ‘Brewery Bavik’ and ‘Brewery der Trappisten van Westmalle’.

Implementation of Drink-IT EMCS at Palm Breweries

Luc Bettens, ICT Manager Palm Breweries:

“It was a big challenge. The implementation period was just four weeks because of the deadline set by the government (beginning of January). The Drink-IT EMCS module also had to be integrated into our existing back-office system and finally we had to work together with customs and excises. NORRIQ approached this challenge with great professionalism. The project was integrated smoothly respecting the timing, the scope and the budget.”

The Drink-IT EMCS implementation produces a speedy Return on Investment (ROI).

“Each year, we have 4000 outgoing excise-free shipments,” explained Luc Bettens. “If you consider that we spent an average of 15 minutes on administration for each declaration, you can see that the amount of time we save is enormous. The manual input has been completely eliminated so that we are able to spend our time more efficiently. In addition, we have no costs per message as the NORRIQ Drink-IT EMCS solution communicates directly with the Customs Administration Department. You reduce the complexity and eliminate the third party that communicates with the Customs Administration Department.”

Given all these advantages, the decision to implement the Drink-IT EMCS module was not long in coming, concluded Luc Bettens. “NORRIQ has a lot of experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV and a thorough expertise within the beverage industry.”
